Ancient Statue

Last updated: March 2025

These terms cover your use of this blog and any illustrated retelling, print or hand-bound manuscript ordered or commissioned through it. By browsing the site or requesting a piece, you're agreeing to them.

Autumn Folklore

You're welcome to read, save and print these pages — the myths, the legends, the old stories we've gathered and retold — for your own enjoyment. Please don't copy them for resale, or pass off our research and storytelling as your own.

Tales Found in Old Books

A message sent through this site is an enquiry, not a finished agreement. A commission — a hand-illustrated legend, a custom manuscript page, a print inspired by an ancient statue — is only confirmed once we've agreed the piece, the price and the timing in writing.

We take on only a small number of commissions each season, since every manuscript and illustration is researched and drawn by hand. If a story falls outside what we can do well, or we can't finish it in time, we'll say so rather than take on work we can't deliver.

The Craft of Myths

Prices are agreed before any work begins, and we usually ask for a small deposit to start the research and illustration. The remaining balance is due before the finished manuscript, print or retelling is sent out to you.

Folklore Art

Ink tone, paper texture and page size vary slightly from one hand-drawn piece to the next, and a photograph can't quite capture that. These small differences are part of working by hand, not a flaw — every illustrated legend is unique.

Stories Behind Myths

We wrap and pack each illustrated piece ourselves, and send it only once the ink is fully dry and the pages are properly set. If anything arrives damaged, let us know within a few days and we'll repair or replace it.

A manuscript or illustration made to your own request — your chosen legend, your family's folklore, your own retelling — cannot be returned unless it's faulty, since it was created for you alone.

Folklore in Stone

The stories, illustrations and essays gathered here belong to this mythology and folklore blog. If you would like to quote a legend, reprint an illustration, or translate one of our retellings, just ask — we're happy to share these old tales, and will usually say yes, provided the source is credited.

Legends of Ancient Statues

We stand behind every legend we retell and will gladly correct any mistranslation, mislabeled source, or factual slip that is ours to fix. We are not responsible for the contradictions, lost fragments, or shifting details found in the original oral traditions and regional variants these stories were drawn from long before we ever wrote them down.

Tales Told by Firelight

If anything here changes, we'll update this page and the date at the top, much like a legend shifts slightly with every telling.

Old Gods

Anything you're unsure about, send through our contact page — we'll answer plainly, no riddles like an old oracle.
